During my stay at 845 Spud Farms, I had an amazing experience that I will never forget. I learnt many new things, but I also had the freedom to ask questions and explore different aspects of the company. The friendliness of the people on and around the farm made me feel right at home. I had a varied range of tasks, this was a lot of fun. Michiel takes into account the things you like to do and want to learn more about. He took a lot of time to show me all aspects of farming and the business side that comes with it, he was very open in this. This gave me a lot of new insights. I also got the chance to visit different farms, which I really enjoyed. Besides helping out, I had plenty of free time to do fun things and explore Canada. I saw a lot during my stay in Canada.

I am Roel Bergsteijn, 21 years old and have completed college Entrepreneur Green, Ground and Infrastructure course in Barneveld The Netherlands. During this college I had the opportunity to do an internship abroad and wound up at 845 Spud Farms Ltd.
I interned at 845 Spud Farms from April to October 2023. During my internship I was given the opportunity to grow in their company and I was able to carry out almost all work within the farm. I really appreciate the involvement of Michiel, his wife and the entire 845 crew. They were always there for me and I could always ask them questions and got helping answers.
The working days were always very different and during the planting and harvesting season we worked long days. In the evenings, a filling meal was always provided on these days.
Everything was arranged down to the last detail, including transport from the airport to the house where I stayed in, as well as the car, etc. that I could use during my internship. Besides all the work at the company, there was also plenty of time to explore the area. Michiel regularly took me out, so I went to farm shows and other trips. The contact with the other internship participants was very pleasant, there were many internship companies in the area with many other internship participants.
In short: I am very happy with the internship at Spud farms 845. My internship at 845 Spud Farms has allowed me to grow a lot on a personal level and in my work experience. I would definitely like to go back to work with Michiel for another harvest season.
