845 Spud Farms Ltd. is a 50/50 partnership between Michiel Buijsse and Bill Bezooyen. Michiel Buijsse, an immigrant to Alberta from Holland, was working as a manager on a potato farm. He had the farming skills and passion, but no land. However, things changed when Michiel was approached by the Bezooyen’s with a new business opportunity.
The Bezooyen’s own Bezco Farming Inc, a grain farm near Coaldale, Alberta. Bezco farmed canola, wheat, barley, winter wheat and alfalfa, and the partnership allowed them to expand into a fifth crop, potatoes. Together, Buijsse and the Bezooyen’s started 845 Spud Farms Ltd.
845 Spud Farms Ltd. utilizes modern farming technologies and crop strategies to keep pace with the fast-moving potato industry. Primarily, we sell our crops to our local McCain and Cavendish plants to be processed into hashbrowns and French fries.
The Buijsse and Bezooyen families prioritize sustainability, responsible land use, and foster a sense of family among their growing team. The farm meets continuously changing challenges head-on, viewing them as opportunities for future growth. They are dedicated to creating an enduring legacy for future generations.
